I miss the quiet of winter.
The way it’s just you and the ground and the breath of the earth.
I miss the stillness of spring and the way the air is crisp.
I miss the smell of spring flowers and the shade of the golden afternoons.
There are still some good things about summer, some things no one can ignore.
The breeze before a storm and the excitement in her eyes.
Some people really do come alive in the summer, for the rest of the year they’re dying.
It’s just me and the ants and the dance of the grass in the breeze.
But I still look forward to the fall no matter how much the summer bleeds.
